The upraised hands of Moses on the mountain represents the power of prayer to us today (Exodus 17:11-12). There is much more to this passage than people praying for their spiritual leaders. There is a need for Christ followers to support one another right now. Every one of us needs a person on either side of us to hold up our faltering hands sometimes.
When it comes to the warfare that surrounds us in the unseen realm, we really need one another. We need to find the strength of the Lord through the nourishment of our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Church was never intended be a gathering of solitary “lone rangers.” We are inextricably linked by the blood and through the Cross of Christ.
Our next generation needs to be held up in fervent prayer, just like Moses did for Joshua when he prayed for them to win against the Amalekites. If we don’t learn to support in prayer, instruction, and encouragement the next generation, the succeeding generations will not know victory. A generation has overcome in an area of struggle because the previous one prayed for them.
The main point here is to remind believers that everything you and I will ever need in facing daily challenges and trials is found in the rock of our salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ. We will surely encounter thirst and conflict in our daily battles, but we can attain victory through prayer, staying full of the Spirit, and supporting each other. God desires to give us everything we need though Jesus Christ. We just simply need to look to Him and always keep our faith in His finished work at Calvary’s Cross.
